Jordan Spieth may have put a new putter in the bag this week, but unfortunately, he won’t get to use it this weekend. The 23-year-old struggled on Friday at the AT&T Byron Nelson missing his second cut in two weeks as he fired a final round four-over 75, which included a quadruple-bogey nine that ultimately doomed his chances.
The Dallas native playing on home soil was comfortably inside the cut line for a majority of the day after making five bogeys and four birdies in his first 15 holes leaving him at one-under for the tournament. Then, he reached the par-5 16th and sprayed two balls OB with driver off the tee, one of which ended up in somebody’s yard. After a layup and a poor wedge, he two-putted for the quad which dropped him to three-over and on the outside looking in.
He looks to defend his title next week at the Dean & Deluca Invitational.
Jason Kokrak, who shot 66-62 leads by five strokes after two rounds at 12-under. Billy Horschel, who had an interesting week at the Players last week is currently in second, while World No.1 Dustin Johnson is lurking in a tie for third at minus six.
