Justin Thomas had the shot of the day on Thursday during the first round of the WGC-Mexico Championship at Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico City. After a 347-yard (!) drive to the right, Thomas was left with little options, but he did manage to advance it to semi-playable spot 103-yards out in the right rough.
However, a low hanging tree and a back right pin forced Thomas to play a creative punch-cut that hit short of the green, skipped through the rough and crashed into the pin for one of the more ridiculous birdie threes you’ll ever see. He even capped it with a Michael Jordan shrug:
Here’s a look at his crazy shot-tracker of the hole:
The already two-time winner this season finished with a fairly solid two-under 69. He’s only two shots back of a six-pack of leaders which includes Phil Mickelson, rookie sensation Jon Rahm, and the ageless Lee Westwood who is playing in his 56th career WGC event. For perspective, this is the 62 World Golf Championship.
