Watch: Kraft Makes Routine Par From a Grandstand

In the latest edition of “there are no pictures on a scorecard,” Kelly Kraft gave us a free lesson on how to make par from a grandstand. During the third round of the John Deere Classic, the 28 year-old Texas native yanked a drive wayward to the left off the par-5 17th tee ending up between the hospitality tent between the 17th and 18th holes at TPC Deere Run.

Weighing options for his drop, Kraft could’ve played from a spot in the area around the grandstand. However, given the lie he’d probably draw and the poor angle, he clearly figured he had a better chance to salvage the hole from a tight AstroTurf lie several feet off the ground.

While there wasn’t much room to make a swing, the 2011 U.S. Amateur champ made clean contact as expected, hoisting it up and over the trees and back into play.

From there, Kraft put the next one on the green and two-putted for the “routine” par. He went on to shoot a 3-under 68, but finds himself T62 after 54-holes. Here’s another angle for some perspective.

Patrick Rodgers leads the way by two after the third round over Scott Stallings and a red-hot Daniel Berger who fired an 8-under 63, equalling the low round on moving day. Here’s a look at Saturday’s action:
