Don’t be fooled by what you saw Phil Mickelson do on Tuesday at Carnoustie, hitting flop shots off of links turf is not easily accomplished. As if Mickelson hitting a shot from close range over Gary Evans wasn’t impressive enough, Kevin Na took hitting flop shots around Carnoustie to a different level during one of his practice rounds this week.
Playing alongside Si Woo Kim and Byeong-hun An, Na found himself in a precarious position to the right of the 18th green. With very few options facing him and nothing to lose, Na put his back to the green and took a full swing as captured by his caddie, Kenny Harms.
For good measure, Na’s playing partner An tried an alternate shot type — we can call that hockey style? — that ended up rolling out of bounds.
That wasn’t the only trick shot that Na pulled off in his preparation. Not surprisingly, he found himself in an uncomfortable and unfamiliar situation on the 9th fairway during his Wednesday practice. Instead of trying a baseball-type swing from in the pot bunker, Na flipped over his club and showed off his left-handed golf swing.
Not too bad for a right-handed golfer.
