Koepka Rips Sergio For Saudi Antics

Sergio Garcia may be getting off relatively easily avoiding a suspension from the European Tour after being disqualified for a serious breach of etiquette last week at the inaugural Saudi International for intentionally damaging five greens, but he’s being held accountable by at least one top-ranked player who was also in the field.

Brooks Koepka may be criticized for being relatively boring off the course, but when he gets in front of a microphone, he’s proven to be quite opinionated.

Speaking on Tuesday to The Playing Through Podcast hosted by Froggy and GolfDigest.com’s Brian Wacker, Koepka was asked about Garcia’s theatrics, some of which were caught on tape in a Royal Greens Golf and Country Club bunker during the second round. Koepka, who was playing two groups ahead of Garcia when he was disqualified in the third round, didn’t pull any punches.

Sergio Won’t Be Suspended For Serious Breach DQ

“It’s frustrating as a player to see, to act like that, to disrespect everybody,” Koepka said. “To act like a child out there is not cool. It’s not setting a good example and it’s not cool to us, showing us no respect or anybody else.”

Asked further about the conditions of the course and whether that may have been a legitimate reason for Garcia’s outburst, Koepka shut that notion down immediately.

“Dustin (Johnson, the eventual winner) didn’t have a problem with it,” Koepka said. “That’s just Sergio acting like a child,” Koepka continued. “It’s unfortunate that he’s got to do that and complain. Everybody’s got to play the same golf course. I didn’t play very good, but you didn’t really see anybody else doing that. You’re 40 years old so you gotta grow up eventually.”

Koepka finished in a tie for 57th in the event.
