Australian PGA Tour pro Jarrod Lyle, 36, died on Wednesday night at his home in Torquay, Australia, following his third battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
After beating the disease twice — once as a teenager and again in his early 30s — Lyle was informed that his cancer returned for the third time in 2017. At the end of the year, Lyle underwent a haploidentical transplant and stem cell therapy and was progressing favorably until unforeseen complications resulted in illness and a loss of vision.

On July 31, a post on Lyle’s Instagram page let the world know that he, his doctors and his family decided to stop his fight against the disease and entered Lyle into palliative care where he could be close to his two young girls and wife for his remaining days. On Wednesday, August 8, the news came that Lyle had passed.
“Lusi, Jemma and I are filled with grief and now must confront our lives without the greatest husband and father we could ever have wished for,” Briony said in the statement. “At the same time, we have been blessed and overwhelmed with the messages and actions of support from around the world and feel comforted that Jarrod was able to happily impact so many people throughout his life.”
Lyle won twice on the Web.com Tour in 2008 and bounced between the Web and PGA Tours over the next three years before his cancer returned in 2012.
Lyle bested the disease and returned to the Tour in 2014, but was unable to meet the requirements of his medical exemption. He returned to Australia to compete and work as a television analyst before he was diagnosed for the third time in July of 2017.
