Jeff Maggert is a three-time PGA Tour and a five-time PGA Tour Champions winner, but on Friday at the Hoag Classic, he could have been confused for a weekend hacker.
Already having a bad day in Newport Beach, California, Maggert was in position to put a bow on his over-par round by getting up-and-down from a greenside bunker for birdie on the par-5 18th hole at Newport Beach Country Club.
Instead, what happened next is every golfer’s nightmare.

The 5-putt from five feet turned a would-be birdie into a triple-bogey eight.
Maggert dropped from 2-over par to 5-over for the event, which put him 12 shots behind first-round leader Scott McCarron.
