Attending a professional golf tournament comes with its fair share of risks, not the least of which is that there are some 150 golf balls flying around a course traveling at over 100 mph.
When you calculate the person-to-golf ball ratio on a course, it’s amazing there aren’t more people struck during the course of a tournament week. Typically, however, it’s gallery members who are the victims; occasionally, as was the case at the 2014 Memorial Tournament, marshals and volunteers are struck.
Yet on Friday at the Hero Indian Open, it was a camera operator who got a little too close for comfort when Scotsman Marc Warren was laying up on the par-5 second hole. Facing a lie with the ball below his feet, Warren sent a screamer right past the left ear of the cameraman.
Thankfully, no one was injured, but the close call gave Warren and the announcers a little chuckle.
After the replay, the European Tour announcer mentioned a certain Bobby Jones clip in which the Grand Slam winner gives a lesson while trying to hit the camera a few yards ahead of him. The announcer encouraged viewers to try to find that video on YouTube and we did just that.
Enjoy.
