Matt Fitzpatrick Brutally Lipped Out An Ace

Hole-in-ones in golf are sacred, so when you see one come agonizingly close like Matt Fitzpatrick did during the first round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, it’s always nice to have somewhere there to put things in perspective.

The 22-year-old English pro striped a 5-iron directly at the pin on the par-3 seventh hole at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club and asked for it to be good. It was. In fact, it was almost perfect. Distraught after seeing his ball take a right turn around the cup, Fitzpatrick’s caddie did his job by picking his man up with a simple sentence.

“No car, you didn’t want it to go in anyway,” he said.

Fitzpatrick, doubled over in disbelief, took a quick look back to where a car would have been, realized his looper was on to something and popped up to say, “good point.”

He would tap in for birdie on 7 and go on to shoot a first-round 3-under par 69.
