Netflix Makes Foray Into Live Sports With Golf-F1 Crossover Event

A star-studded event is coming to the Las Vegas Strip next week when Netflix brings together top race car drivers and professional golfers for an exciting head-to-head competition.

“The Netflix Cup,” set for Tuesday, November 14 at Wynn Golf Club, will feature four teams each consisting of a Formula 1 driver and a PGA Tour pro.

According to Netflix’s announcement on Thursday, the matchups will include British-Belgian driver Lando Norris and Rickie Fowler taking on Spaniard Carlos Sainz and Justin Thomas. The other matchup pits Thai-British driver Alex Albon and Max Homa against Frenchman Pierre Gasly and Collin Morikawa.

The teams will play eight holes of match play and face some surprise challenges along the way. The top team from each foursome will then compete in a playoff hole to determine the inaugural Netflix Cup champion.

Providing commentary during the live stream on Netflix will be comedian Bert Kreischer, PGA TOUR player Joel Dahmen, broadcaster Kay Adams and NFL legend Marshawn Lynch.

“The Netflix Cup” comes on the heels of two hit sports docuseries on Netflix. “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” currently filming its sixth season, has rapidly grown the popularity of F1 racing in the U.S.

Meanwhile, “Full Swing,” which follows pro golfers throughout their season, is finishing up filming for its second season after engaging more golf fans.

The competition is being held the same week as the inaugural FORMULA 1 HEINEKEN SILVER LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX, bringing together two of Netflix’s most successful sports programming series.

Sanctioned by both the PGA Tour and Formula 1, “The Netflix Cup” is produced by a team including Kevin Hopkins of Excel Sports Management, Bryan Zuriff of BZ Entertainment, and executives from Full Day Productions.
