Azinger: “Pudgy Rory Never Got Hurt”

If you plan on watching the U.S. Open this week on Fox Sports, get ready for a whole lot of Paul Azinger. The former Ryder Cup captain will be gracing our TV sets for the next four days in the booth providing his expert analysis and likely dishing out some brutal honesty. If you recall just last week he spoke candidly about Tiger’s pain medication “problem.” On Wednesday, Azinger gave us an idea of what we can expect during an Open preview show. His next victim: Rory McIlroy.

“Pudgy Rory never got hurt, but fit Rory’s getting hurt a lot,” he said. “I question fitness. If you think fitness makes you better it probably makes you better. But I guess there’s a point of diminishing return, if you’re not careful.”

Pudgy Rory! Obviously, there has been much made about Rory’s gym routine in recent years considering he went from 100 percent baby fat to 100 percent muscle. In fact, Golf Channel’s Brandle Chamblee practically makes a living just talking about it.

While a rib injury has plagued McIlroy in 2017, it should be noted that McIlroy said in his press conference on Tuesday that he has “no limitations” in his swing this week when he was asked.
