PGA Tour, Discovery Announce Streaming Service GOLFTV

The PGA Tour and its international rights partner, Discovery, announced on Monday the advent of GOLFTV, a streaming service that will provide live and on-demand video service to golf fans outside of the United States.

“Our long-term goal is to create a must-have experience that truly enhances the way global fans watch, play and engage with the game every day,” Alex Kaplan, the President and General Manager of Discovery Golf, said. “Unveiling the new GOLFTV brand is an exciting next step in our journey.

“Building on Discovery’s heritage of real-life storytelling and direct-to-consumer platform experience, we’ve already established a world-class GOLFTV team.  With work well underway, our carefully considered plans will allow us to continually enhance GOLFTV as we roll-out and further develop the product.”

GOLFTV will provide more than 2,000 hours of live content each year as well as a library of on-demand content. The service is slated to launch globally on Jan. 1, 2019  in Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia and Spain as well as other markets as the rights are activated.

GOLFTV will supersede PGA Tour Live outside of the U.S. with subscribers to PGATL garnering a simple transition to the new service.

Aside from GOLFTV, Discovery will handle the PGA Tour’s international rights over the next 12 years, a deal that was announced in June.
