Wherever Phil Mickelson goes, he puts on a show. This past week was no different. Besides posting his best finish since June at the Dell Technologies Championship where he tied for sixth and made a case for a Presidents Cup captain’s pick, Lefty got into this hilarious exchange with a young fan at TPC Boston.
After assessing his lie in the rough presumably about 260 yards out, Mickelson pulled out a 3-wood, but then decided to ask a young fan in the gallery his opinion on what he should do.
“Would you go for it here out of the rough or would you lay up?”
The boy, whose name is Riley, offered his blunt, yet sarcastic response that was right up Phil’s alley, “If I could hit my 3-wood 260, I would probably go for it.”
The crowd erupted in laughter to which Mickelson responded, “I like the way you think.”
In the end, he did hit 3-wood and we can only assume it was the right call because afterward Mickelson turned to the boy and said: “Riley, you can caddie for me anytime.”
Heading home happy – thanks @MickelsonHat and @goodwalkspoiled Riley loved following #teammickelson – thanks for being so kind #winphil pic.twitter.com/c7NmvyO1Lu
