Phil Holes Incredible Bunker Shot, In Contention

It would appear as if Phil Mickelson has recovered nicely from his two offseason sports hernia surgeries. Lefty shot a second-round 6-under par 66 on Friday at the PGA West Nickalus Course to vault himself into contention heading into the weekend at the CareerBuilder Challenge thanks to shots like the one above.

The tournament ambassador was questionable at best to even play in the event, but after a few days of off-site practice, Mickelson announced on Wednesday that he would give it a go despite heavy rust on his game. After rounds of 68-66, Mickelson’s “rust” has become an enviable quality.

At 10-under par, Mickelson is four shots back of 36-hole leader Hudson Swafford. Other notable names in the field include Paul Casey (-8), Jason Dufner (-7), Zach Johnson (-4), Patrick Reed (-4), Bill Haas (-4), Bryson DeChambeau (-2) and Webb Simpson (+1).
