Phil Ranks as Fifth Most Famous Athlete in the World

We all know Phil Mickelson is a big deal. Even Phil Mickelson knows he’s a big deal. Apparently, the rest of the sports world does too. On Tuesday, ESPN released a brand new list of their world’s most famous athletes, and Lefty ranks fifth in the world making him the highest ranked golfer out of the 11 that made the cut, including Tiger Woods.

The list was comprised of a combination of endorsement money, social media following and Google search data. Mickelson makes $50 million in endorsements, roughly $5 million more than Woods does. However, what the 46-year-old lacks in digital outreach (he has no official accounts under his name), he makes up for in confidence and thumbs ups.

Other golfers to make the list besides Phil and Tiger (10) include Rory McIlroy (14), Jordan Spieth (17), Dustin Johnson (43), Sergio Garcia (58), Rickie Fowler (62), Justin Rose (73), Jason Day (84), Bubba Watson (94) and Adam Scott (98). ESPN’s pick for the most famous athlete in the world was soccer star, Cristiano Ronaldo.
