Phil Mickelson put the full court marketing press on Thursday night at the Staples Center during the Los Angeles Lakers-Denver Nuggets game joining Kevin Harlan and Reggie Miller courtside to discuss the upcoming $9 million match against Tiger Woods.
With The Match being produced and broadcasted by TurnerMedia, TNT’s Thursday night NBA slate was the perfect opportunity for Phil to yuck it up on the telecast and give a behind-the-scenes look at what some of the more interesting portions of The Match could entail.

“A lot of the trash talk happens between the shots and we won’t have commercials to cut away from, so that’ll be helpful,” Mickelson explained. “When we’re mic’d on the course, we’re going to have little challenges that can get in each other’s head.
“If (Tiger) has a downhill putt… ‘I’ll bet you 50 G’s that you miss this.’

The press release that came out earlier this week detailed the inclusion of side bets, but $50,000 is a little more than you’re typical side bet.
Aside from Mickelson’s stint on the game call, he also joined Inside the NBA earlier in the evening to talk at more length about what The Match will bring to the table for golf fans.
The conversation with Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal revealed further insight into Barkely and Mickelson’s golfing history together in Phoenix, Barkley’s swing as well as Phil’s now-notorious dance moves.
