There are still three FedEx Cup Playoff events and a Ryder Cup between now and the Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson match on Nov. 23, but the reveal of more details recently has brought the one-on-one match to the forefront of many golf fans’ minds, including those of the two participants.
While Tiger and Phil engaged in a little needling earlier this week before The Northern Trust, the first leg of the four-part FedEx Cup Playoffs, Phil took it to another level on Saturday essentially trash talking Tiger while the left-handers’ shot to the par-3 2nd hole at Ridgewood Country Club in Parasmus, New Jersey.
Mickelson would go on to birdie the hole after sticking his tee shot to inside eight feet. Phil shot a third-round 3-under par 68 to move to 9-under par for the tournament and into a tie for 9th place while Tiger matched Mickelson’s score, but moved from even par to 3-under par for the event, tied 49th.
Both men will be chasing Bryson DeChambeau on Sunday as the Memorial Tournament champion looks for his second PGA Tour victory of the season. At 16-under par, he leads Keegan Bradley by four shots.
