The Best Field in Golf Is at The Players

The PGA Tour’s flagship event kicks off on Thursday at Tour headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The strongest field in golf will take on Pete Dye’s diabolical Stadium Course design with the largest purse in professional golf on the line, and early-round action as well as afternoon featured groups can be seen exclusively on PGA TOUR LIVE beginning early Thursday morning.

The reason the Players is known as “The Fifth Major” is because of its field. 48 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, including all of the top-10 will tee it up this weekend. The biggest stars will not only be vying for the crystal trophy, but they will begin their quest for the hardware as a featured group on PGA TOUR LIVE.

The featured groups this week on PGA TOUR LIVE will have 10 of the top-11 in the world featured, headlined by Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Hideki Matsuyama and Jordan Spieth. Big names such as Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler will also receive featured coverage.

Last year’s Players was won wire-to-wire by then-World No. 1 Jason Day. The Aussie was in the midst of an amazing run of form that saw him win three of six starts that included the Players, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the World Golf Championships-Dell Match Play.

Day edged Kevin Chappell by a stroke and Justin Thomas, Matt Kuchar, Ken Duke, Colt Knost and Matt Kuchar by two.
