Having a disappointing year to this point, Rickie Fowler has kicked his game into high gear and not a moment too soon. The 27-year-old Oklahoma State product only made the cut in two major championships this year and didn’t finish inside of the top-30 in the other two.
One of the few bright spots in his year was a runner-up finish to Hideki Matsuyama earlier this year at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. However, something in Rio must have turned things around for Fowler. A week removed from his time at the Olympics, Fowler has shot 67-69-68 and he hasn’t made a bogey in his last 45 holes.
Fowler is being chased on The Barclays leaderboard by Patrick Reed and Adam Scott who are one and two strokes back, respectively. Fowler and Reed can lock up automatic Ryder Cup spots with a solid Sunday at Bethpage Black.
