Romo Trying To Qualify For The Web.Com Tour

Tony Romo appears to be hoping to leave the CBS NFL broadcast booth pretty soon. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and competitive amateur golfer is in the field Wednesday for the Web.com Tour pre-qualifying tournament, the precursor to the Web.com’s Q-School.

Playing off of a +0.4 handicap, Romo is well below the mandated 2.0 handicap to compete for one of approximately 228 spots in next month’s Q-School. Romo will be one of 68 players teeing it up at Lantana Golf Club in Texas. The amount of qualifying spots for the Lantana pre-qualifier has not yet been announced.

Despite a lackluster showing in his lone PGA Tour start earlier this year — he missed the cut at the opposite field Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship by 16 shots — Romo has put together a pretty solid summer.

Romo won the Racine Tri-Course Amateur Championship by nine shots in July as well as American Century Championship this summer.

The pre-qualifier will be a three-round tournament with those advancing playing again at Lantana September 25-28, which is Week 3 of the NFL season.
