With Nike Golf announcing that they would be getting out of the hard goods side of the industry, Rory McIlroy instantly became golf’s most sought-after equipment free agent. Finally comfortable with his Nike equipment — sans the putter, which he has already changed out for a Scotty Cameron mallet — McIlroy said he was in no hurry to sign on with another equipment company.
The decision makes sense for McIlroy, who isn’t really hurting for the endorsement cash a new set of sticks would bring. Instead, he’s taking his time looking for a new brand to put in his bag. He said that the process of changing clubs, if it does happen, will be gradual.
That’s a pretty good endorsement for the Nike clubs many believe to be inferior equipment.
