Other than the folks at BMW, Aronimink Golf Club and the PGA Tour, the one person most hoping to get in the final round of the oft-weather delayed and soaked BMW Championship is Jordan Spieth.
“My mind will not be set on any kind of projections, I can promise you that,” Spieth said earlier in the week. “It’s not do or die for me.”
However, it may not be that cut and dry for the 2015 FedEx Cup Champion.

Spieth faces a fine and possible suspension, according to ESPN.com’s Bob Harig, should this week’s FedEx Cup Playoff event get shortened to 54 holes. Spieth has only played 23 events this season — the Ryder Cup will be his 24th — but currently projected at 31st in the FedEx Cup standings mean that should he not get the opportunity to play in the final round, he will fall short of the mandated 25-event schedule.
The PGA Tour is in its second year of requiring members to play in at least 25 events if they fail to add an event to their schedule that they have not played in the previous four years. Spieth did not add a new event, so the 25-event minimum is a requirement he is must meet.

“Each year I’ve had an opportunity to win the FedEx Cup at the end of the year,” Spieth said. “It’s certainly highlighted and a goal. This year in the current state I’m in a more difficult position to win the FedEx Cup than I’ve been in the last five, six years. At some point in your career, you’ll be stuck in a position that’s more difficult than other years.”
With the BMW Championship’s final round already in a five-hour weather delay on Sunday and with more rain expected throughout the day. There hasn’t been any guarantee as to how the Tour will treat a possible Monday or even Tuesday finish or if they will shorten the event to 54 holes.
Should the tournament be called at 54 holes or should Spieth not play well enough to crack the top-30 in the FedEx Cup standings, he’d be in line for the fine (believed to be $20,000) or even a possible suspension.
