If you’re going to go down, you might as well go down in flames. Two-time major winner Stacy Lewis melted down on Saturday during the third round of the U.S. Women’s Open all but dashing her hopes of claiming the prestigious title.
The two-time LPGA player of the year got to within a shot of the lead which included a run of five birdies in seven holes. But it all began to fall apart on the par-4 11th at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Lewis missed the green long with her approach, then chipped it through the green. Her next shot didn’t make it up the hill and in the end, she walked away with a triple bogey seven.
Then she made bogey on the par-4 12th which included her calling over a rules official to complain that a person holding the microphone for Fox Sports had stepped directly in front of her ball. But the former World No.1 held it together stringing together a few pars afterward.
However, it was all for not after she inexplicably chunked two balls into the water on the par-5 18th carding a 10 on the hole en route to a back nine 44, leaving her four-over on the day. Overall Lewis is 2-over after 54 holes and finds herself tied for 36th.

“You never want to see that happen to anybody,” said playing partner Christie Kerr, according to Golfweek. “That’s golf. It’s a four-letter word.”
An LPGA official asked Lewis if she’d meet with the press after she walked out of scoring.
“No chance,” Lewis said, twice.
China’s Shanshan Feng leads the way by one at 9-under over two-time U.S. Open runner-up Amy Yang and 17-year-old amateur Hye-Jin Choi.
