Thomas Pieters played the back nine at the HNA French Open on Saturday without a driver and still came home in 3-under 32 en route to a round of 67. While it would be nice to say it was a strategy, it most certainly was not. Pieters effectively, and literally, took his own driver out of his hands when he snapped it in frustration after his tee shot found the water on the ninth hole.
Naturally, some people were offended and Pieters apologized after the round for his actions:
I’m sorry if I offended people by snapping my driver today. Didn’t intend to brake it, I’m playing one of the toughest courses out there duh

Pieters still finds himself right in the mix heading into Sunday one shot back of leaders Peter Uihlein and Alexander Bjork.
This isn’t the first time the 25-year-old “Muscles for Brussles” snapped a club in two during competition. Last year at the Open Championship, he gave this one the full treatment.
