Tiger Considering Swapping Out Trusty Putter

During his latest return, we’ve seen Tiger Woods be “on” with all parts of his game, but he hasn’t been able to put them all together for one tournament. Early in the season, it was his trusty putter that masked some driving and ball-striking deficiencies. More recently as his ball-striking came around and his driving became passable, it was the putter that has deserted him.

Always searching for a fix, Woods made a major change this week in the lead-up to the Quicken Loans National shelving his trusty Scotty Cameron Newport 2 in favor of a TaylorMade TP Ardmore 3 mallet.

“I’m trying something out,” Woods said, according to Golfweek.com’s Dan Kilbridge. “The way I’ve been putting, just thought I’d look for a change. That’s all it is. And hey, you know, it rolls it good. You never know.”

Speaking with more reporters on the course, Woods described using the Ardmore to help with his release of the club on the greens.

“I kept saying that I wanted something with more swing than mine,” he said. “I like feeling like that toe is moving and swinging, but this one has a fraction more swing than mine does.

“It’s at my discretion. If I find something that helps me play better, then so be it. If it doesn’t, then it’s not going in the bag.”

Whether or not Woods makes the switch won’t be official until Thursday afternoon at 1:20 p.m. when he tees off alongside Marc Leishman and Bill Haas.
