Tiger Woods formally re-committed to playing in next month’s Hero World Challenge on Tuesday. The event, conveniently hosted by his foundation at Albany in the Bahamas, will be his first start in 16 months.
“I am excited to make my return at the Hero World Challenge at Albany and play in this terrific tournament,” Woods said in a release. “This is our 18th year, and every year we put together a top field that showcases the best golfers from the previous season.”
The ‘decision’ comes on the heels of withdrawing from the Safeway Open in mid-October and opting not to make the trip to play in the Turkish Airlines Open this week. Even though Woods hosts the event, he technically got into the field by way of one of the two sponsors’ exemptions the event doles out; the other going to 2007 Masters champion and lay-up specialist, Zach Johnson.
