Tiger Mocks Na’s Early Pick-Up On Island Green

Tiger Woods and Kevin Na didn’t have much to smile about for most of their respective rounds on Saturday at The Players Championship. Through nine holes, the twosome was a combined 10-over par on the day and an afterthought in the proceedings.

However, whenever you’re playing TPC Sawgrass, the island green 17th hole is must-see television.

The pair didn’t disappoint as Na stuck his tee shot to 4’5″ and Tiger put his to inside three feet. While the birdie putts were mere formalities, Na made an odd move towards his ball as it crept towards the hole, which drew a reaction from the announcers, fans and Tiger himself.

With an even shorter putt, Tiger took the opportunity to poke some fun at his playing partner.

“It looked like he was going to catch it before it got to the hole,” Woods said after the round. “He had to pull his hand back, slow it down.

“I thought I’d have a little fun with it, but I had to make sure I hit it on line first.”

Na explained that his early walk is nothing new.

“You’ve seen me do it before. I’ll give him a lesson later,” Na said. “I’m anxious to get it out of the hole. The ball is afraid of the dark.”

Na would go on to shoot a 6-over par 78 to miss the secondary cut. Woods, on the other hand, recovered from his less-than-stellar front nine to shoot 3-under par on the back and post a 72.

Woods enters the final round at 3-under par overall and 12 shots back of 54-hole leader Jon Rahm.
