Tiger Planning More Exhibition Matches With GolfTV

Fans of The Match, rejoice.

GolfTV, the live and on-demand video service Discovery launched with the PGA Tour in 2018, has plans in the works to bring more Tiger Woods-centric matches to the golfing public in the near future.

According to a report from Sports Business Daily’s Austin Karp, Discovery President and CEO David Zaslav revealed the idea for a series of matches that would be headlined by Tiger Woods at the World Congress of Sports on Wednesday at Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif.

“We looked at (The Match) and said  ‘pretty interesting,'” Zaslav said. “One million people came in and wanted to watch it. Could we improve on it? What could we do? So we’re going to do a number of those type of events. Tiger’s excited about it.”

And GolfTV isn’t wasting any time getting events scheduled, either. Zaslav said that one match has aleady been planned to be contested in Tokyo, with others taking place around the world.

“Should it be one-on-one? Two-on-two? Should we have two matches going on at the same time? But (Tiger’s) all in,” Zaslav said.

Woods signed a multi-year partnership with GolfTV in November. The outlet has produced various videos shared on social media in recent months. Woods, who was knocked out in the quarterfinals of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship last Saturday, will play again next week at The Masters.
