Tiger Woods announced in a statement on Thursday that he will be missing this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational due to his ongoing back issues and that he has no timetable for return.
“Unfortunately, due to ongoing rest and rehabilitation on my back, I won’t be able to play in this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. I’m especially disappointed because I wanted to be at Bay Hill to help honor Arnold. This is one event I didn’t want to skip. Arnold has meant so much to me and my family; I thought of him as a close friend, and Sam and Charlie were both born in the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. He will be greatly missed and can never truly be replaced.”

Woods has won the API a record eight times and with this being the first year since the King’s passing it was definitely on his agenda to be there. Unfortunately, back spasms have plagued him since his missed cut at the Farmers Insurance Open, forcing him to withdraw the following week in Dubai and subsequently, his next two starts as well.
With the Masters less than a month away, Woods offered no indication if he will be ready to give it a go at Augusta, or for that matter, again in 2017.
“Presently, I have no timetable for my return to golf, but my treatments are continuing and going well.”
