Tiger Woods Commits To Wells Fargo Championship

The Tiger Woods comeback tour, which took a three-week hiatus after his encouraging performance at The Masters, will return next week at the Wells Fargo Championship, Golf Central reported on Thursday afternoon. 

 

All signs point to Woods teeing it up in Charlotte at the Quail Hollow Club. Quail Hollow returns as the host of the event after taking last year off to host the PGA Championship won by Justin Thomas. 


For Woods, this will be his first start at the Wells Fargo since 2012. He has won the event once, a two-stroke win over Steve Stricker in 2007 when the event was still known as the Wachovia Championship. This will be Woods’ seventh start since his spinal fusion surgery. He’s made the cut in six of the seven official PGA Tour events that he’s played in, highlighted by top-5 finishes at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Valspar Championship.

Woods is also expected to play in the following week’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, which would mark the third time he’s played back-to-back weeks this year. Should Woods’ schedule hold to form, he will likely play the Memorial Tournament before the second major championship of the season, the U.S. Open to be contested at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southhampton, New York.

Woods currently sits in 50th place in the FedEx Cup standings and 91st in the Official World Golf Rankings.
