Tiger Woods Drains 71-Foot Birdie Bomb at API

There’s still some magic left in Tiger Woods’ trusty Scotty Cameron putter.

After a stellar start to his first round of -4 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational that saw Woods make three birdies against no bogeys on his opening nine holes, Woods’ round took a turn for the worse on the par-4 third hole — his 12th of the day — when his ball wound up out of bounds by a few inches, leading to a double-bogey 6.

Instead of going the wrong way, Woods turned things around on the very next hole with a bounce-back birdie. On the par-5 6th, a mudball left him in a tough position short-sided to a front right pin where Woods showed off some impressive short-game skill.

On the following hole, after an indifferent shot into the 199-yard par-3 7th, Woods flashed the flat stick that won him 13 of his 14 major championships.

A pair of pars to finish out his round put Woods at 4-under par for the tournament and one-back of the early-wave leader, Jimmy Walker.

Walker had his own great shot on Thursday with a walk-off eagle on the iconic 18th that sent the crowd into a frenzy.  Walker was the early leader, but there was a torrid pace in the afternoon wave as Henrik Stenson brought home the day-one lead at 8-under par.

Aaron Wise and Taylor Gooch are two shots back.

Here are the complete first round highlights.
