Old habits die hard. For Tiger Woods, this is the first time he’s been on the grounds at a Ryder Cup where he hasn’t been a playing team member. That became painfully — and for Tiger, embarrassingly — obvious on Tuesday when the 12 men who are representing the United States this week posed alongside of their captain for a team picture.
Now, we’re not professional photographers, but a 12-man picture, plus a captain holding the trophy, seems pretty simple to set up. And it was, until Tiger wanted in. He tried to hang on to one end of the back row, but he stuck out like a sore thumb. When that didn’t work, he tried the other side. That didn’t fly with the photographer, either.
The 14-time major champ was shooed away to laugh it off with his fellow assistant captains and the team caddies. Jim “Bones” Mackay, Phil Mickelson’s caddie, seemed to jump on the opportunity to give Tiger a little ribbing.
