Whether you are weekend warrior or a touring pro, there’s one thing we can all agree on – golf is hard. The difference is you probably aren’t playing it for a living. Dealing with frustration is part of the game, but even the professionals are human. While we don’t condone throwing golf clubs, we invite you to sit back, relax, and watch some of the best players in the world have at it. Here are 10 hilarious Tour pro club throws.
Henrik Stenson
We get out list started off with this modern marvel from Henrik Stenson which includes Protracer technology. The Stensonator is no stranger to breaking clubs, and not surprisingly he’s also no slouch when it comes to throwing them. During the 2016 Ryder Cup, the Big Swede took full advantage of protracer technology when he blocked a 3-metal and launched it high up in the air in what could be mistaken as a sacrifice to the golf gods. Thankfully he avoided clocking himself in the head on the way down.
John Daly
Long John Daly is a legend among mere mortals, but you already knew that. Here he is at the 2015 PGA Championship contested at Whistling Straits. After splashing two balls in Lake Michigan, the two-time major winner decided that his iron should join them as well. That’s one souvenir we’d like to have!
Sergio Garcia
Sergio Garcia and frustration go together like homemade paella and fine Spanish wine. During the 2011 Thailand Golf Championship, El Ninõ dunked two in the drink and was not amused. It’s important to note the lag he generated with his angle of release, not unlike his golf swing. With a club toss like that, how could he ever say he’s not good enough to win a major?
Miguel Angel Jimenez
The most interesting man in golf never disappoints. Here he is at the 2015 KLM Open trying to escape a pesky bunker. After having to adjust his stance several times, he pulls the trigger – and is obviously less than pleased with the result. Nothing that a fine cigar can’t fix!
Rory McIlroy
You might want to grab a pen and take notes for this gem of a club throw courtesy of Rory McIlroy during the 2016 Open Championship. While some folks pride themselves on finesse, McIlroy prefers a power approach. Again, it’s all about leverage. When the club head snaps clean off, you know you’ve made it to the big time.
Ian Woosnam
This club toss from the former Masters champion may not have been the most dramatic, but it certainly could’ve been the most costly. During the 2001 Open Championship, the Welshman had just moved into a tie for the lead, but on the second hole was assessed a two-stroke penalty for having 15 clubs in his bag, one more than the 14-club max. He ended up finishing tied for third.
Pat Perez
The always fiery Pat Perez shows us how delicate this fickle game can be. Here he is at the 2010 Shell Houston Open demonstrating the proper throwing motion. That a boy, PP!
Laura Davies
If you thought men were the only ones who threw clubs, think again. Dame Laura Davies shows us how a lady does it by gracefully tossing her putter into a lake at this year’s Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi. It doesn’t get nobler than this!
Rory McIlroy
Gracing our list for the second time, Rory shows us why if you come at the king, you best not miss. After hitting a less than stellar approach at the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Championship, the four-time major winner went full bore hurling his poor iron into the belly of the Doral Blue Monster. Release. Rotation. Splash!
Thomas Pieters
Rounding out our list is one the best club throws not just of the 21st century, but maybe ever. Euro sensation Thomas Pieters went full-on Bo Jackson at the 2016 Open Championship after hitting his seventh shot from behind the gorse. Not a bad outcome considering the aftermath. Guess that’s why they call him the ‘Muscles from Brussels.’
