U.S. Open Champ Brooks Koepka to Miss Masters

Reigning U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka will miss the Masters with a left wrist injury according to USA Today.

Koepka has not played in a tournament since the first week of January at in the Sentry Tournament of Champions and was subsequently diagnosed with a partially torn tendon in his left wrist. On Tuesday, Koepka was asked if he would be ready for the Masters, but didn’t sound optimistic.

“They said I would be about 80 percent, but I can’t play 80 percent,” Koepka told USA Today. “I either have to go full bore, or not at all. I don’t want to risk getting it re-injured and then be out a long time.”

Koepka has played in three previous Masters, including an 11th place finish last year. Koepka plans on only stating to putt this past week and won’t begin chipping until next week.  Koepka does have some time before attempting to defend his U.S. Open title as the 2018 championship will be held from June 14-June 17 at Shinnecock Hills golf club on Long Island.
