PGA Tour Back in Texas for Historic Event

The magnolias and azaleas are in the rearview mirror for another year as the PGA Tour begins the buildup for its signature event, the Players Championship. Only two stroke play events stand between this week’s Valero Texas Open and TPC Sawgrass’ stadium course.

The host of this week’s Valero Texas Open, TPC San Antonio’s AT&T Oaks Course, was designed by Greg Norman with special consultant Sergio Garcia. You can catch all the early-round action from the Lone Star State on PGA TOUR LIVE

The Valero (1922) is the third-oldest stop on the PGA Tour behind the BMW Championship (1899) and the RBC Canadian Open (1904), and it is the oldest Tour stop to be contested in the same city over its tenure. This week on PGA TOUR LIVE you can see some of the world’s top players compete in this historic event.

The event will be a homecoming of sorts for a number of players who will be featured in the PGA TOUR LIVE coverage. 2015 winner and nearby resident Jimmy Walker headlines the 12-player, four-group featured pairings. San Antonio native Patrick Reed will have his first round covered entirely by the PGATL crew. Additionally, past winners Zach Johnson, Brendan Steele and Charley Hoffman will be featured.

The first two days of the Valero Texas Open will be live streamed on PGA TOUR LIVE beginning at 8:15 a.m. EST, giving subscribers just shy of 11 hours of live golf that otherwise would go unseen. Through the Tour’s partnership with Twitter, the first hour-plus of the PGA TOUR LIVE broadcast can be seen for free.

Here is PGA TOUR LIVE’s schedule for the Heritage.

PGATL will move to Featured Hole coverage at 3:30PM/ET on Thursday and Friday. Featured Hole Coverage consists of the 13th (Par-3) and 17th (Par-4) holes.

Last year’s Valero title was taken home by Charley Hoffman, which made his run at this month’s Masters a possibility. Hoffman fired a final-round 3-under par 69 to edge out Reed by one stroke. Chad Collins finished in solo third, two shots back, and a group that included Billy Horschel and Ryan Palmer finished in a five-way tie for fourth.
