We’re six months removed from Europe’s drubbing of the United States in the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National outside of Paris, but Euro assistant captain Lee Westwood took this week’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship as an opportunity to twist the knife on the Americans.
After being eliminated from group play in which he went 0-2-1, Westwood made an observation during Saturday’s Round of 16 matches, which included Kevin Kisner’s dominant 6 & 5 victory over China’s Haotong Li.
Westwood took to social media to needle American Ryder Cupper and fans alike with a simple, witty tweet.

“Kevin Kisner appears to be a very good match play player,” the nine-time Ryder Cupper wrote. “I’ll tell you a course that would really have suited him. Le Golf National.”
Kisner was on the shortlist for captain’s picks in 2018, finishing the season 14th on the points standings. U.S. Captain Jim Furyk opted to select Bryson DeChambeau (9th in the standings), Phil Mickelson (10th), Tiger Woods (11th) and Tony Finau (15th) instead.
It’s hard to argue with Westwood’s overarching point, which he clarified in response to a fan who claimed he always takes shots at American golf.

Indeed, Kisner was near the top on Tour in terms of driving accuracy, which was very important in Paris, as well as strokes gained: approaching the green in 2018.
He has also proven his ability in match play each of the past two years, winning the Match Play on Sunday by defeating 2018 European Ryder Cup stalwart Francesco Molinari in the semifinals and fellow 2018 U.S. Ryder Cup team snub Matt Kuchar in the finals.
Naturally, Westwood got the last laugh.
