3. Tianlang Guan
When 14-year-old Chinese sensation Tianlang Guan won last year’s Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, he earned a berth into the Masters. Few probably thought he would get to see the weekend at Augusta, but he made the cut on the number despite a penalty for slow play.
The teen has won over fans worldwide with the way he handled the penalty and the maturity he demonstrated beyond his years, as well as his young style.
Guan is also just the fourth player from China to make a Masters cut and clearly the youngest. He may yet spur on a generation of his peers to take up the game in China — just in time for golf’s return to the Olympics.
