Casey Martin Wins $50K For His Oregon Ducks Golf Team

If the name Casey Martin rings a bell, it’s probably because he’s the former tour pro who fought for the right to use a golf cart.

What you may not know is that he’s now the head golf coach at the University of Oregon. This week at Riviera, he’s doing a lot more than coaching — he’s fundraising.

Martin took part in the Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase on Tuesday, which paired him — as a pro — with two amateurs in a three-man best ball tournament for $50,000. Among the other pros participating were Jordan Spieth, Ryan Palmer, J.B. Holmes, Jim Furyk and Bill Haas — stiff competition for sure.

Martin and his amateur partners, Jim Amen and Terry Newsom, combined to fire a 58 — good enough to take a one-shot victory and the $50,000 prize for the Ducks.

After the win, Martin returned to his duties as coach, but for at least a day he was his program’s biggest fundraiser.
