When And Why You Should Buy New Irons

When it comes to making significant purchases in the golf space, there are a lot of factors to take into account. As it pertains to a set of irons in particular, there are a few factors you should take into account considering that your irons are likely to have a longer effective lifespan than any other club in your bag with the exception of the putter.

Some factors to consider when you’re thinking about making that big purchase is whether or not your irons are fit to your swing. Getting fit for irons is massive for any player hoping to shave a few strokes off their game. Better yet, most golf retailers will waive the fitting fee when you purchase your irons from them.

Another consideration is how your game has improved or declined since your last iron purchase. Whether you were a strong player who has found it more difficult to make good contact recently or a beginner who has made strides in finding the center of the clubface, a change one way or the other as it pertains to your ability could be a reason to buy a new set.

Finally, one last reason it may make sense to buy a new set is that the technology and loft adjustments have passed your current set by. Many irons are a stronger loft now than in year’s past, which means your 6-iron may have a similar loft as a newly-released 7 or 8-iron. While this can be an ego-driven desire, golf can be an ego-driven game.

If you’re curious about whether a new set is right for you, go to your local club fitter location or course and hit your irons and some new irons on a launch monitor to compare and contrast how your irons stack up to a newer set.
