The key to good putting is making sure the ball comes off the putter with the same velocity every time, and there are a couple avenues you can take to achieve this: you can vary the length of the stroke, keeping a constant energy; or you can lock in a stroke length and vary the energy you apply.
The ladder drill is a reliable method for developing speed control. Use some alignment sticks to set up a target for yourself on the green and work on repeating the length of your stroke rather than varying the acceleration. That’s a more predictable way to find a consistent tempo for your putts.
