Playing in the fall or winter, we’re faced with these tricky and nasty lies around the green where the ball is sitting in a wet, muddy patch. To play this shot, you need to build in an insurance policy, so use the right club.

Your hybrid has a nice wide sole so you can’t mishit it — the club is going to skid. Playing it like a putt, grip well down the shaft, move the ball back a bit in your stance and get your weight to your lead side while trying to use a putting stroke. The ball takes off skipping through the wet terrain, and it should save you a couple of shots per round.
