The best distance wedge players — shots from 40-70 yards — have a very shallow impact. The two keys to being shallow are wide and inside.
Wide means that there isn’t a lot of wrist hinge and the clubhead is pretty far away from your head at the top of the backswing; inside means the club is traveling a little on the inside of the plane, which will help to shallow you out. This will allow your distance wedge shots to come in low with a lot of spin.
