There are two ways to look at strategy when looking at par 4s and par 5s. Ask yourself, where are my challenges off the tee? Are they equal on both sides or is one side to be avoided? Then, look at your strategy on your second shot. Where are the best plays?

Pro golfers like Tiger Woods and Ben Hogan think about it by first starting at the green and dictating where they want to be and move back to the tee, strategizing where they want to hit their drive based on their strategy at the green.

If you’re having trouble with one of your holes on your home course, try looking at your strategy from the opposite end. Where do you want to be hitting the ball up here and from where do you want to approach the green? Looking at it backward is sometimes an excellent way of looking at strategy.
