Hitting down on the ball doesn’t mean getting steep and chopping down on the ball. It simply means that the golf swing is a circle and the low point of the swing is past the golf ball, or on the target side of the golf ball.

For a visual representation, a hula hoop with a piece of tape at the bottom can show you where you actually want the bottom of your swing to be.
